Clear monthly rates

Find the right fit.

Starting prices for monthly rentals. Models and sizes are subject to availability; we’ll confirm the details with you.

Weighted keyboards and electric guitars have different rates. See the instrument page for options and what’s included.

Start with the teacher’s list

Before choosing an instrument, ask the school or private teacher which type and accessories they expect. “Saxophone” may mean an alto, while “keyboard” may mean a full set of weighted keys. Getting that detail right saves a second trip.

Send us the requirements and we’ll tell you which rental fits, what comes with it, and what you still need. We rent keyboards, saxophones, flutes, clarinets, trumpets, guitars and electric bass. If the assignment calls for an instrument we don’t stock, we’ll say so.

An instrument that’s ready to learn on

Leaky pads, sticky valves and high guitar strings can make the first few lessons harder than they need to be. Our rentals are checked, cleaned and set up before handover. If a problem develops through normal wear and tear, contact us so we can arrange a repair or replacement.

A monthly rental gives your child time to build a routine before you decide whether to buy. There’s a one-month minimum; after that, the rental continues month-to-month. Ask us to confirm return arrangements when you’re finished.

Get the fit right

Bring the teacher’s recommendation into the decision. A manageable size and comfortable playing position matter more than a particular brand.

  • Guitar: ask about the size before booking for a younger child. We’ll confirm which models are available.
  • Saxophone: confirm whether the assignment is alto or tenor. Online day and week bookings are for alto; other types are arranged with our team by the month.
  • Flute and clarinet: check the model requirements with the teacher, especially if they have specified a particular key arrangement.
  • Trumpet: let us know whether this is for a first school-band instrument or a more experienced player.
  • Keyboard: confirm the number of keys and whether the teacher requires weighted action. A basic keyboard and a weighted model have different monthly rates.

Tell us your child’s age and any teacher requirements. We’ll help you find a suitable option and confirm availability before you commit.

The first-rehearsal checklist

The teacher’s supply list should be the final reference. Check it against these basics:

  • The correct instrument, in working order
  • A protective case or suitable way to carry it
  • Any required reeds, valve oil or other consumables
  • Cleaning supplies appropriate to the instrument
  • A music stand for home practice, if needed
  • The assigned book or sheet music

Each instrument page lists what is included. Send us the school’s list so we can confirm which extras you need before pickup.

Renting and rent-to-own are different

A rental lets you use the instrument for the agreed term. Rent-to-own programs may apply some payments toward a purchase, but the amount of credit, purchase price, fees and deadlines depend on the provider’s agreement.

Kalman’s offer is straightforward instrument rental. Don’t assume your rental payments become purchase credit. If you decide to buy later, we’re happy to help you compare an instrument’s condition, suitability and total purchase cost.

Renting is useful when you want time to see how practice fits into family life. Buying may make sense once you know the instrument is a good fit. There is no need to decide that before the first lesson.

Pickup, delivery and timing

Pickup from our East Village location is free at an arranged time. Rental delivery is $25 anywhere in the five boroughs, or $35 to New Jersey. See pickup and delivery details.

If school has already assigned an instrument, get in touch with the type and date you need. Availability varies, so an early request gives us more time to work through options. We’ll confirm the model and handover arrangements with you.

Lessons, if you’d like them

If your child would benefit from individual help alongside school band, explore our music lessons for kids. You can also mention lessons in the rental enquiry. The rental is available on its own.
