Compare the same instrument and the same term
Two rental prices are only comparable if they cover the instrument and duration you need. Start with the exact type, relevant features, and dates. A compact keyboard and an 88-key weighted model serve different needs; an alto saxophone booking is not a tenor booking.
Kalman Music Lessons publishes equipment and term information on the instrument rental pages. Use those pages to establish a specific option, then compare that option with any other offer you are considering. Ask for clarification if the advertised model or term is unclear.
Put the complete cost beside the headline rate
For each offer, record the rental charge, one-time fees, delivery or collection costs, and any required equipment you still need. Confirm whether a quoted month is a fixed booking or a continuing monthly arrangement, and check the minimum term.
At Kalman Music Lessons, eligible daily and weekly instrument rentals have a one-time short-term fee. Monthly rentals have a one-month minimum. Delivery adds a separate charge if selected. Current rates appear below and on each instrument page; the booking summary confirms the total for your dates.
If comparing renting with buying, use a purchase you would realistically make rather than the cheapest instrument you can find. Include expected length of use and the work of maintaining or reselling it. Our rent-versus-buy guide explains the tradeoff.
Ask what is included and what is your responsibility
Check the supplied accessories item by item. For an electric guitar or bass, confirm the amplification arrangement. For a keyboard, check power, support, and pedal requirements. For a band instrument, bring the teacher’s mouthpiece and supply list.
Also ask who handles a problem with the instrument, what repairs are covered, and what you need to do if it is damaged. Our rentals cover normal wear and tear, and the instrument remains your responsibility while it is with you. Ask the team about anything in the rental arrangement you do not understand before the handover.
Make sure the handover works for your schedule
An attractive rate is not useful if the instrument cannot arrive before the first session. Check actual availability rather than reading a general catalog as a stock guarantee. Online booking at Kalman Music Lessons shows open dates and pickup or delivery options for eligible instruments.
Free arranged pickup is in the East Village. Rental delivery is $25 across the five boroughs, with online delivery windows starting the next day. New Jersey delivery costs $35 and is arranged directly. Review pickup and return details and include the return trip in your plan.
A short checklist before you book
- Exact instrument, model requirements, and dates confirmed.
- Full cost understood, including fees and transport.
- Required accessories matched to the supplied equipment.
- Maintenance, responsibility, and return terms understood.
- Pickup or delivery arrangement fits the first session.
If an offer leaves one of those questions unanswered, ask before paying. A clear answer is more useful than a broad promise that a rental is perfect for everyone.
