Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

This policy explains what information Kalman Music Lessons ("we", "us") collects and how we use it — both on this website and in our mobile app Read Between the Lines (the "App"). We've tried to write it in plain English rather than legalese.

The short version

  • You can use the App as a guest — no name, no email, no sign-up.
  • If you turn on the microphone, audio is analysed on your device to hear which note you played. It is never recorded, stored, or sent to us.
  • We never sell your personal information.
  • You can delete your account and data at any time.

What we collect

Account information

When you first open the App we create an anonymous guest account — a random identifier with no personal information attached. If you choose to create a full account so your progress follows you between devices, we also store your email address.

Learning progress

Levels completed, stars, XP, streaks, practice days, and which notes you tend to get right or wrong. We use this to run the App, sync your progress across your devices, and pick what to drill next.

Microphone

The App can listen while you play in order to check your pitch. This analysis happens entirely on your device, in real time. No audio is recorded, saved, or transmitted to us or anyone else. You can decline microphone access and still use the App.

Purchases

If you subscribe, the purchase is processed by Apple or Google — we never see or store your payment card details. We receive your subscription status (active / expired) via RevenueCat so the App knows to unlock premium features.

Advertising (free plan only)

Free users may see ads served by Google AdMob, which may use advertising identifiers. On iOS we ask your permission before any tracking; if you decline, you'll see non-personalised ads instead. Subscribers see no ads at all.

Usage & diagnostics

Basic, aggregated information about how the App is used and whether it's working correctly, so we can fix bugs and improve lessons.

Website

If you join our early-access list we store the email address you give us. Our website uses standard analytics and, where you consent, advertising measurement tags.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers, and only for the purposes above:

  • Supabase — hosts our database and accounts.
  • RevenueCat, with Apple / Google — subscription processing and status.
  • Google AdMob — advertising for free users.

We do not sell your personal information, and we don't share it with anyone else except where required by law.

Your choices and rights

  • Play anonymously — you're never required to give us an email.
  • Delete your account — you can delete your account and its data from within the App, or by emailing us.
  • Tracking — decline the iOS tracking prompt (or change it in iOS Settings) for non-personalised ads.
  • Remove ads — subscribe to Premium.
  • Access / correction / deletion — email us and we'll help; depending on where you live (e.g. the EU/UK or California) you may have additional statutory rights.

Children

The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it. Younger students are welcome to learn with the App under the supervision of a parent, guardian, or teacher.

Keeping it safe & how long we keep it

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and access is restricted to your own account. We keep your progress for as long as your account exists; when you delete your account, we delete the data associated with it.

Changes

If we make meaningful changes to this policy we'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, tell you in the App.
