Kalman Music Lessons is a New York City music school whose teachers come to your home. For families, one teacher teaches two or three children different instruments in a single visit — piano, guitar, bass, drums, saxophone, clarinet, flute, trumpet, violin, cello, ukulele, voice and music theory — across Manhattan, most of Brooklyn, Astoria, Long Island City and Ridgewood in Queens, and at home throughout Westchester. Neal is the best guitar and bass teacher I’ve ever had! He is so knowledge about all instruments and music theory. Tal Kalman music school is extremely easy to work with and very responsive. I highly recommend using them for all your music needs needs. Also they’re right in the East Village in a gorgeous apartment that is truly the best play to learn whatever instrument you desire :)
Noa is fantastic - she is easily able to adapt a lesson based on needs, even right in the moment. I started Ukelele with my son, and with a 30 min piano lesson for me. She was able to figure out a way for him to join me at the piano, for some fun and impromptu music composition time (and we are both beginners). Very inspiring, highly recommend.
Before you book
Can one teacher really teach two or three kids different instruments?
Yes. We match your family with a teacher who covers every instrument in the plan — piano and guitar, or piano, drums and voice — and they teach the children back-to-back in a single visit. Most of our teachers play several instruments professionally; if a combination needs two teachers, we tell you before you book.
How is a shared lesson priced?
The visit is priced as one lesson. A 60-minute block is split between the children: two kids get 30 minutes each, three kids get 20 minutes each. You pay the 60-minute rate for where the lesson happens — at your home or in our studio — not a rate per child.
Is 20 minutes each enough for a young beginner?
For children under about nine it is often ideal: focused, short, and every week. Older kids or those preparing for auditions usually want more, and you can move one child to their own 30-minute lesson at any point — the plan is not fixed.
What if one child wants to stop and the other doesn't?
The visit becomes a normal lesson for the child who continues, at the standard rate for that length. Nothing is lost; there are no family contracts or semester fees.
What does the first lesson cost?
Your first lesson is $15 in our studio or $50 at your home. That covers the whole household's first visit, not each child. After that, lessons start at $50 per 30 minutes in our studio and $60 at your home on a 10-lesson package.
