Common questions

Common Voice questions.

I think I'm tone-deaf — can I still learn?

Real tone-deafness is rare. Most 'tone-deaf' students just haven't trained their ears yet — and that's exactly what lessons do.

What ages do you teach?

Ages 7+. Very young children are better served by general music classes first; we're happy to refer.

Do I need to read music?

No — we'll teach you by ear, and gradually introduce reading if you want it.

How much are voice lessons in Westchester?

At-home voice lessons in Westchester start at $95 for a 30-minute session with a 10-pack. Single lessons start at $115. All lessons are at your home — no commute needed.

Do your teachers travel to Westchester?

Yes! Our voice teachers travel directly to your Westchester home for every lesson. You can also choose online lessons if that's more convenient. Same teacher, same time each week.

Can I start voice as a complete beginner in Westchester?

Absolutely. Many of our Westchester students start with zero experience. Your teacher will build a custom plan starting with the basics, and you'll be playing music you enjoy within the first few weeks.

How we teach voice in Westchester

Kalman Music offers Voice Lessons New York City designed to develop vocal technique, expand range, and build performance confidence. These lessons emphasize healthy vocal production, breath control, and expressive singing across a variety of musical styles. Whether preparing for auditions, performances, or exploring singing for enjoyment, students receive personalized instruction that supports both technical mastery and artistic expression.

Instruction begins with vocal fundamentals: posture, breath support, resonance, vowel placement, and tone quality. Students learn how to engage their diaphragm, control airflow, and produce clear, supported sound without strain. Exercises focus on flexibility, pitch accuracy, and vocal agility, helping singers navigate their full range with ease and confidence.

Vocal health is central to every lesson. Instructors teach proper warm-ups, cool-downs, and techniques to prevent vocal fatigue and injury. Students learn to recognize tension, adjust breath pressure, and maintain vocal stamina during rehearsals and performances. This mindful approach ensures longevity and sustainability for singers at every level.

Lessons are available for all ages and experience levels. Beginners focus on basic pitch matching, rhythm, and simple melodies, while intermediate students refine technique, expand range, and explore stylistic nuances. Advanced singers tackle challenging repertoire, improvisation, and advanced vocal techniques such as runs, riffs, vibrato control, and mixed voice.

Kalman Music's Voice Lessons New York City and Top Voice Classes NYC are designed to empower singers with technical skill, artistic confidence, and expressive depth. Each lesson balances vocal exercises with real-world application, helping students sing with freedom, clarity, and authentic emotion. Whether pursuing a professional career or singing for personal fulfillment, students receive the tools and guidance to reach their full vocal potential.

Why students stay with Kalman Music for voice lessons in Westchester?
