Standard of Excellence is a well-regarded alternative to Essential Elements that many trumpet teachers prefer for its slightly different pacing and exercise variety. It covers the same fundamental material but approaches it from a somewhat different angle.
Our teachers occasionally recommend this book when a student's learning style is better suited to its approach, or when a school band program uses it as their primary method. Both Standard of Excellence and Essential Elements are excellent choices — the best book is the one your teacher knows best.
