Our Teachers' Review
Strength 2.5 is the standard recommendation for developing tenor saxophone students. It produces a full, warm tone that is characteristic of the tenor saxophone while remaining comfortable for extended playing.
Most of our tenor students settle on 2.5 reeds as their primary strength after the initial months of playing. The balance between tone quality and ease of response makes it versatile enough for practice, lessons, and performances.
As with alto reeds, we encourage students to have multiple reeds in rotation. Reeds respond differently depending on temperature, humidity, and how long they've been played, so having several reeds to choose from ensures students always have a good option available.
