Our Teachers' Review
For tenor saxophone beginners, we typically start with a 2.0 strength reed rather than the 1.5 we use for alto. The tenor saxophone's larger mouthpiece and reed require more air support, and a 2.0 reed provides the right balance of ease and tone quality for new tenor players.
Tenor saxophone students are often older or switching from alto, which means they may already have some embouchure development. The 2.0 reed takes advantage of this while still being forgiving enough for the learning process on a new instrument.
Rico Royal tenor reeds offer the same consistency and quality that make them our go-to recommendation for alto players. The reliable response from reed to reed helps students build confidence and focus on developing their unique tenor sound.
