The 0.80mm black mouthpiece patches offer more cushioning than the standard clear patches, which some students prefer for the additional comfort and grip they provide. The thicker material absorbs more vibration from the upper teeth, which can reduce fatigue during extended playing.
Our teachers recommend trying both the thin clear and thick black patches to see which feels better. Personal preference varies — some students barely notice the thin patches and prefer the minimal profile, while others appreciate the substantial cushion of the thicker version.
Regardless of thickness, using mouthpiece patches is one of those simple habits that protects your investment and improves your playing experience. We encourage all our saxophone students to keep a supply of patches on hand and replace them when they start to wear through.
