Our Teachers' Review
Once students have developed basic embouchure strength and consistent tone production on a 2.0 reed, the 2.5 strength is the natural next step. The slightly firmer reed produces a fuller, more focused sound while still being comfortable for developing players.
Most of our clarinet students transition to 2.5 reeds within three to six months of starting. We recommend keeping a few 2.0 reeds on hand during the transition for longer practice sessions when fatigue sets in.
