Alfred's Drum Method Book 1 is our primary recommendation for beginners. It covers snare drum fundamentals — grip, stroke technique, reading rhythmic notation, and rudiments — in a clear, progressive way. Our teachers use it as the core text for the first several months of study.

Vic Firth American Classic 5A sticks are the industry standard for students and professionals alike. The 5A is the most versatile weight — not too heavy, not too light — and the hickory wood provides great balance and durability. We recommend starting with 5A and exploring other weights later.

The Evans RealFeel practice pad is essential for home practice. It has two sides — a gum rubber side that closely simulates the feel of a real drum, and a harder side for building strength and endurance.
